The ebb and flow of creativity affects us all. Some days you’re energized for writing and creating. Other days, you’re sluggish and uninspired. We tend to revel in the up days and beat ourselves up on the down days.
Living at the beach gives me a real sense of this ebb and flow. The waves come crashing in only to slowly back off and begin to ebb. The tide comes in. The tide goes out. Just because you have an off day, doesn’t mean you won’t ever have another great day. Just because the words don’t come one day, doesn’t mean they won’t appear in the next.
Rather than chastise yourself on those days when nothing seems to go right, the page is blank and your prose boring, instead do whatever brings you joy and happiness. In other words, trust in the ebb and flow of creativity and fill the well with good thoughts and intentions.
Inspiration and creativity never come from pushing and forcing and criticizing. Think of the muse as an honored guest. Make your mind and your environment pleasing and inviting, loving and nurturing. Before you know it you’ll be writing again.
Find peace in the ebb and flow and creativity.
