Coming Clean – A Writers Life

October 22, 2015 By Martha Alderson

Coming Clean – A Writers Life

I encourage writers to set up and stick to a daily writing schedule. Especially so uncertain and hesitant writers, I explain how the practice sets up a working habit and helps cut through resistance. How your body begins to anticipate the schedule and leads you to your writing. How half the accomplishment of writing is 1st showing up. In the spirit of coming clean… I don’t stick to a writing schedule. When I was just starting a writers life I had a writing schedule and the discipline served me well. Writing everyday at the same time for as long as I could filled my veins with a passion for writing. So much so that now when I’m in the “zone” I resent outside interference and turn antsy and irritable if something takes me from my writing.

Everyone’s writers life is different. In the month of November, thousands and thousands of writers join together to share something in common — writing everyday to reach 50,000 words by the end of the month. You don’t have to finish what you start. You do have write everyday to achieve the word count — about 1700 words a day — or about 7 pages a day.

I just came out of a full emersion into writing what started as a brief pamphlet outlining some of the more common emotions and their meta-physical meaning for the Spiritual Guide for Writers: Secrets of Personal Transformation video program I’m just now finishing up filming. With nothing else to divert me, I followed the energy and watched as the pamphlet grew into an ebook I’ll soon have up for sale on Amazon. The opportunity to clear a space to devote to one project, day and night, writing and dreaming and outlining and plotting is a luxury. Giving yourself the gift will transform your writing life. You’ll no longer be on the fence about your writer’s life or your story or your commitment. You’ll be word-drunk, full of power and own being a writer…

In the spirit of coming clean and to encourage you, I’m offering a massive book giveaway from Monday, Oct. 26  through Friday, October 30th with all sorts of support to get you ready for your month-long journey into your writers life.
