Writing Tip of the Day

July 9, 2016 By Martha Alderson

What is the difference between a writing dream and a writing goal? A dream usually requires the help of others to come true. A goal is under your control, measurable, and quantifiable.

Writers often dream of becoming a published author. For that dream to come true in the traditional sense, you need the help of an agent and publisher. Or, today, anyone can publish independently, which then turns the dream of being published into a measurable goal.

Writing Tip of the Day

To achieve your writing goals:

1) Decide on the date you plan to finish your manuscript or plan to publish

2) Work backward from that date to determine how many words you need to write each day to achieve your writing goal or plot out the steps needed to publish your completed story

3) Daily log-in on your calendar the word count you accomplish or each step you achieve toward publication

Rather than concentrate on the end result, this writing tip of the day allows you to focus instead on what you can to do right now to accomplish your writing goals and perhaps even achieve your writing dreams.
